First night sleeping in a Walmart parking was anything but a Disney Resort. Morons revving their engines at 2 am and the parking lot flood light beaming through my curtains made sleep difficult, but manageable. By 6 am, the morning rush of shoppers began and with them, the screeching sound of rackety old shopping carts being pushed by the back of the van (which is also where my head rests).
Andy and I had planned an interview for later in the day, so I wanted to get to the Planet Fitness in Florence, Kentucky with plenty of time to workout and shower. I made the quick 1.5 hour drive to Florence where I pulled into the most immaculate Planet Fitness I’ve ever seen. Perched on the corner of a 20 foot hill stood this 2 story behemoth of a gym that screamed, “Do you even lift, bro?!”
As Yoda would say, “Lifted, I did.”
After a quick shower, I was back in the van to work on The Dad Book. After two relatively cold nights in the van, the 65 degree warm air felt refreshing as it blew through the open windows. While typing, a handful of people asked, “Are you a YouTuber or something? Are you living out of your van full-time? I’ve always wanted to travel in an old VW, where should I start?”
Vanah just can’t stay away from the paparazzi!
Andy got back to me around 4 pm and asked if we could do a phone interview as opposed to in-person, as he was stuck in his office for the rest of the day. I took a break from writing to get a haircut and grabbed a cup of coffee from Starbucks to help curb my appetite, as I wanted to leave ample time for the interview and would grab dinner afterwards.
Dusk settled in as I called Andy. *If you or someone you know needs to be included in The Dad Book, fill out this contact form and I’ll get in touch as soon as possible! Andy had reached out to me through this form and is now being featured in the book :)
He felt that after raising 2 adopted sons from Bulgaria, he had quite a story to share. For the full interview, you’ll need to order The Dad Book, but because I love y’all and appreciate your support, you can find snippets of the interview by following @TheRealDadBook on Facebook and Instagram. Here’s the snippet from Andy:
With 2% of The Dad Book interviews complete, I was off to Applebee’s for another dinner of half off appetizers (thank you, again, Aunt Jean!).
Day 3 came to an end with another workout and shower before bed, with a morning trip planned for downtown Cincinnati before heading to Nashville, TN to meet my friends, Clay and Madi.
